In celebration of its momentous birthday, the centre hosted an open day where volunteers and community members could enjoy pony rides, face painting, jumping castle and a sausage sizzle. Long-time members were also invited to dig up a time capsule, buried since , containing their goals and plans for the future. The birthday celebration saw Whyalla Mayor Jim Pollock present volunteers with volunteer service badges and accreditation certificates and Ms Warner with flowers and a 'thank you' card.

There was also a special guest in Joan Lemmon, who is the Whyalla centre's founder and was presented with her 20 years of service badge.
