Unlike her normal voice, Mutsuishi uses a higher pitch when voicing Usagi, a role she assumed even in the various movies that the Sailor Moon franchise spawned. Mitsuishi is also the only voice actor from the original cast to reprise her role in Sailor Moon Crystal , continuing the legacy of Usagi today. Early character designs for Usagi showcase the titular heroine sporting pink hair. Later, this was changed to blonde, as we all know.
It took an editor stepping in to change that plan, as Takeuchi was told that silver hair was simply too plain to have on the cover of a manga. The Sailor Moon creator would put her hair up into buns during exams or hard classes as a sort of good luck charm. Usagi is never really portrayed as all that smart. Not only is she always portrayed as having a strong distaste for school, but Usagi never really seems to do well in her classes, particularly English and math-- her worst subjects.
However, Usagi may be more lazy than she is stupid. Case in point: when Usagi needs to do well on her high school exams lest she be held back and not be in the same class as her friends. Without out too much effort, Usagi passes her high school exams, which are pretty difficult in the Japanese school system.
So, if Usagi applied herself, she would probably be a far better student, but who has time for school when you're battling the forces of evil?
If anything, Usagi has her priorities straight. Naako Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon, took inspiration from her own life and her family when creating Usagi. Usagi is generally seen as a stand-in for the author. It may seem like a bit of a cop-out for an author to just use their real family when creating a fictional one, but plenty of creators have done it in the past.
As any fan knows, Sailor Moon came to North America like most animes do, in an edited form with an English dub. However, that was almost not the case. Before the rights to an English dub for Sailor Moon came about, a company by the name of Toon Makers decided to make their own version of the show. While neither of those traits would carry over to the series as intended, Usagi would eventually have unusual hair white and silver as Neo-Queen Serenity.
Considering that neither of her parents displays similar traits, this is pretty odd. Sailor Moon and Sailor Venus share a multitude of design similarities, so much so that folks unfamiliar with the series might confuse the two. Use the handle of a rat-tail comb to part your hair down the center first, from forehead to nape. Twist and clip the hair on the right side of your head into a bun or ponytail so that it doesn't get in the way. Sailor Moon has straight hair, but having curly hair for this part will help give you more volume.
You can straighten your hair in the next part, if you wish. Create a vertical part on the left side of your head, just behind your ear. Run the handle of the rat-tail comb down the left side of your head.
Start at the center part and finish at your hairline, just behind your ear. Drape the hair that's in front of your ear across your shoulder, and clip the hair that's behind your ear out of the way. Pull the hair that's in front of your ear into a high ponytail. Make the ponytail at the very top of your head, right where it starts to curve down to the side. It should be aligned with the vertical part that's just behind your ear. If you have bangs, leave them out of the ponytail. You can curl them at the end to give yourself a more authentic look.
Twist the ponytail into a bun. Use your fingers to twist the ponytail into a rope. Next, wrap the rope around the base of the ponytail to create a bun. Tuck the end of the ponytail under the bun, then secure the bun to your hair with bobby pins.
If you have thick, curly hair, you may need to use more. If you have short hair, try a sock bun or ballerina bun instead. This won't be as accurate as doing an actual bun, but it's better than having no bun at all! Repeat the process for the right side of your head. Unclip the hair on the right side of your head. Part it vertically just behind your ear.
Clip the hair that's behind your ear out of the way, then pull the hair that's in front of your ear into a high ponytail. Twist the ponytail into a bun and bobby pin it into place.
If you did a sock bun on the left side of your head, you should do one on the right side too. Set the buns with hairspray. Be careful not to get the rest of your hair; you just need to do your buns for now. Alternatively, you can wait until the very end to apply the hairspray, after you've added the ponytails.
Part 2. Undo the back-left section and comb it out. If you have curly hair, consider straightening the section out. This will give you a more authentic look.
If you have natural hair, however, consider leaving it as-is, or use braiding hair to create some micro braids , goddess braids , etc. If you have short hair and plan on adding extensions, you must straighten your hair , otherwise the texture won't match.
