As success stories go, the Skyline franchise is both a fluke and an innovator. The series began with 's Skyline , helmed by Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem directors Greg and Colin Strause, and while the movie found box office success and featured an excellent cliffhanger ending, it didn't make an impact on the level that would suggest that a sprawling saga of humans versus aliens had just begun.
That changed seven years later with 's Beyond Skyline, which kept the epic, global invasion background from its predecessor and cross-bred the film with the ferocity of The Raid series — one of the best martial arts movie franchises in recent years — even bringing a few of its cast members into fold. The third chapter, Skylines , ups the ante from the first two, going from the survival story of the first two films to one of humans venturing to the world of their invaders, mixing in plenty of the second film's martial arts action and finally putting the spotlight on the series' through-line Rose.
It may have taken the Skyline franchise a decade to get to where it is now, but the popularity it now enjoys just shows that a franchise revival is never truly off the table. By bringing together such distinct elements as aliens and martial arts, the Skyline series also stands alone as unique among both genres.
Here is the ranking of the Skyline series. Beyond Skyline is direct sequel to Skyline and takes place just after the events of first film. Jarrod's transformation happened in Skyline and Elaine and Jarrod were the main leads from the first film. That's quite normal to not talk about a first film in a sequel. Most sequels continue the story from where the first one left offand don't show a recap from the first film.
But Beyond Skyline did address the first film when Elaine gives Mark updates about what happened in the first film and how Jarrod's transformation happened. They are shown from two different perspectives. Skyline was mostly filmed from outside the city in that fancy high rise just off the coast. Beyond Skyline was filmed mostly from the inner city A few key notifiers The alien ship then started to rebuild itself.
And then of course, they finally show Jerrod helping Mark find his son It obviously also has some major physiological effects on those that engage it with their eyes for any significant amount of time, evidenced by the crawling and growing dark-vein like effects it has on its victims. Humans are being abducted by the aliens so their brains can be removed. Some insight into how the aliens use human brains might be seen in the parking garage scene: the alien that swallows Colin he's released moments later has his brain and part of his spinal column removed.
The alien ejects a brain-like object and replaces it with Colin's. It might be the way they survive on Earth, replenish their energy, or gain knowledge about humans to make their defeat easier. Jarrod has been subject to the alien technology and virus more than once.
It is possible that it has begun to mutate into his DNA, effectively giving his brain an immunity to being reprogrammed. Unlike the rest of the humans taken aboard, Jarrod distinctly remembers who he is and what is going on. Everyone dies by various means. The two survivors, Jarrod and Elaine, are sucked into the blue light and into the alien mothership.
